One of the things i find most interesting about this piece is the combination of human and other worldly anatomy, specifically the way the temples of the skulls turn into eye sockets.
This image shows a repeating pattern of skulls with huge alien looking eyes in their temples, merging in the middle to create an alien face, which with the large eyes looks almost insect like. At the lower centre of the image are two arms, looking like they belong to a praying mantis. With all of the eyes staring straight into he camera it creates an intimidating visual, combined with the skulls and horrific yet unclear bags of flesh above each skull giving ti a macabre look.
The colour balance is mainly of pale flesh tones, save for the eyes and the mantis claws, which have purples and yellows, making them stand out.
"The Challenger of Death" - http://almanegra.deviantart.com/art/the-challenger-of-death-161185819
This is a portrait, similar to the work of Chet Zar, focussing on the character. The background is nothing but an orange glow behind the head. The character is a hooded human, with its face melting like wax, missing a nose and with deep black shiny eyes.
The interesting thing about this piece to me is the expression, the character looks sad, remorseful and worried, not something we would normally associate with such a horrid looking creature, expecting anger, or menace.
The colour palette us muted, and save for the tongue and the slight browning around the eye sockets, could in greyscale.
